Jeannette W. Wey papers, 1905-1927.

The collection contains papers of Jeannette W. Wey from 1905-1927. The papers include notes, a photograph album, a scrapbook, reports, and printed material. Notes are related to Wey's education in social work and consist mostly of summaries of books. The photograph album contains photographs of Wey and other unidentified individuals. The scrapbook is almost entirely made up of programs from musical performances at Vassar College and in Atlanta from 1905-1914. Reports and printed material relate mostly to social service activities and include brochures from the New York National Committee on Prison Labor and the Georgia Department of Public Welfare. Of particular interest is a 1913 report on social conditions in Atlanta, Georgia, which includes statistics about Atlanta industries, organizations, health conditions, charities, and children. Other printed material in this collection includes a songbook from Vassar College, brochures from the Fifth District Agricultural and Mechanical School in Monroe, Georgia, and an alumnae directory from Agnes Scott College.

Agnes Scott College was chartered in 1889 in Decatur, Georgia as the Decatur Female Seminary. In 1890, due to a large donation by George W. Scott, the school was renamed Agnes Scott Institute to honor his mother. In 1906 the name again changed to Agnes Scott College and by 1907 the College was admitted to the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools as a college member.
